Bioworks’ plant-based fiber PlaX makes commercial debut in THE NORTH FACE and NEUTRALWORKS.

Bioworks Corporation has announced the first commercial launch of PlaX, its plant-based synthetic fibre engineered from PLA, in partnership with Goldwin Inc. The material debuts in the Fall/Winter 2025 collections of two Goldwin brands: THE NORTH FACE and NEUTRALWORKS.

The introduction marks the culmination of a three-year joint development effort. Since 2022, Bioworks and Goldwin have collaborated to refine PlaX for performance outerwear, focusing particularly on dyeability, durability and the specific requirements of pile fleece. Extensive prototyping, yarn-processing adjustments and testing with textile and dyeing partners were required to meet Goldwin’s product standards.

The outcome is the new PlaX Boa Fleece, now commercially available and receiving strong early response, according to both companies.

Bioworks states that PlaX’s bio-based origin and improved processing performance position it as a lower-impact alternative to conventional synthetic fibres. By expanding its adoption, Bioworks aims to help reduce the environmental footprint of the fashion industry and support a more circular materials economy.

Both companies plan to continue their collaboration on material innovation and product design, with the intent to accelerate the broader use of plant-based synthetics in performance apparel.
