Mayer & Cie. Global will focus on mattress fabric production at ITMA Asia, taking place in Shanghai from 20 to 24 November 2026. The company will showcase one of its flagship models for this application: the OVJA 2.4 EM. Joining the mattress fabric specialist will be an OV 3.2 QCe, presented at ITMA Asia in a configuration for knitting double-face fabrics in E40. This gives the OV 3.2 QCe a combination of capabilities rarely found in the market. The German textile machinery manufacturer will also introduce its new portfolio strategy and share updates from its development team at its Albstadt headquarters.

OVJA 2.4 EM: A star performer in mattress fabric production

“Around 70 per cent of the world’s mattress fabric production takes place in China,” explains Alton Xu, CEO of Mayer & Cie. Global. “Our OVJA family offers excellent solutions for this application. The OVJA 2.4 EM in particular combines maximum output with extensive patterning options.”

Producing up to 30 kilograms of fabric per hour, the OVJA 2.4 EM has proven to be one of the most productive machines in its class. Its high output is achieved in part through its high feeder density of 2.4 feeders per inch.

The OVJA 2.4 EM also stands out for its ease of use and extensive patterning options. The horizontal weft yarn guide on each cylinder segment ensures smooth, straightforward operation, short changeover times and high reliability. Thanks to the improved yarn guidance and the pneumatic cross-flow nozzle, yarn tension remains constant even at high speeds. This minimizes yarn vibration and ensures that the yarn is fed reliably to the needles. Electronic individual needle selection in the cylinder enables a wide range of designs and rapid pattern changes.

Mayer & Cie.: Pioneering circular knitting in the mattress market

Mayer & Cie. pioneered the use of circular-knitted mattress ticking. By developing an electronically controlled knitting machine in 1997, the predecessor Mayer & Cie. company paved the way for knitted fabrics to enter a market previously dominated by woven materials. Their high elasticity allows knitted covers to adapt closely to flexible mattresses that respond precisely to localised pressure. With its OVJA family of circular knitting machines, designed specifically for this application, Mayer & Cie. Global continues to provide the technology for producing high-quality mattress ticking in a wide variety of patterns.

OV 3.2 QCe: A distinctive combination of capabilities

The OV 3.2 QCe exhibited at ITMA Asia will knit double-face fabric in E40 using all needles. The machine reliably processes both filament and staple fiber yarns. Axel Brünner, Head of Product Management at Mayer & Cie. Global, says: “In this configuration, the OV 3.2 QCe stands out in the market. The ability to knit double-face fabric at this fine gauge is an exceptionally rare capability that very few manufacturers can offer.”

As a circular knitting machine for interlock fabrics and interlock-based structures, the OV 3.2 QCe has long been one of Mayer & Cie.’s best-selling models.

News from the development team

A new addition to the OV family, OV 2.5 QCe, is currently being developed at the company’s Albstadt headquarters. With 2.5 feeders per inch at 34’’, the machine offers high productivity in the manufacture of interlock fabrics and interlock-based structures, including 8-lock. A conversion kit also enables it to produce rib and spacer fabrics, as well as fabrics in very fine gauges.

Strong foundations and new momentum

At the exhibition, Mayer & Cie. Global will also introduce its new portfolio strategy, designed to offer customers solutions tailored to their requirements and budgets.

Mayer & Cie. Global builds on decades of experience in circular knitting machinery and a deep understanding of textile applications. Development and engineering at its Albstadt headquarters remain core strengths. At the same time, the company prioritises close dialogue with customers and sales representatives, swift decision-making and rapid implementation. Its ambition is to translate market requirements into targeted solutions that deliver measurable value in customers’ production operations.
