Dyneema® to unveil next-generation mooring fiber at SMM 2026

Dyneema®, the world's strongest fiber™, will introduce Dyneema® SK80 fiber at SMM 2026 (Shipbuilding, Machinery, and Marine Technology), the world’s leading international maritime trade fair, held in Hamburg, Germany.

Dyneema®, owned by Avient Corporation, an innovator of materials solutions, will exhibit at the SMM trade fair in Hamburg from September 1–4, 2026, sharing its portfolio of advanced fiber grades used in high-performance mooring lines and offshore marine applications. At this year’s event, Dyneema® will introduce its latest fiber grade to the maritime industry: Dyneema® SK80 fiber. Engineered at the polymer level, it delivers at least twice the durability and fatigue resistance of Dyneema® SK78 fiber in demanding mooring applications. As a result, Dyneema® SK80 fiber provides even greater reliability in the most challenging marine conditions.

Built on a strong legacy of fiber innovation

For more than 20 years, Dyneema® SK78 fiber has been used in the core of the strongest, lightest, and most durable HMPE mooring ropes on the market. Now, following market feedback and years of rigorous in-house research, development, and testing, Dyneema® SK80 fiber builds on the proven performance of its predecessor, delivering at least twice the durability and fatigue resistance in demanding mooring applications.

Dutch court orders Shanghai Port Star to stop sales of HMPE link chains in EU

The District Court of The Hague has ordered Chinese supplier Shanghai Port Star to stop selling and distributing certain synthetic fiber link chains in the European Union after finding that the products infringe EU design rights held by Avient Corporation. The ruling concerns link chains made from high-modulus polyethylene (HMPE) fibers for marine and industrial applications.

DYNEEMA® and NP Aerospace advance personal protection for military servicewomen

Dyneema®, owned by Avient Corporation, an innovator of materials solutions, is supplying its high-performance unidirectional (UD) materials to world-leading armor manufacturer NP Aerospace, enabling the production of armor systems designed specifically to fit the female body. With 2,000 new armor systems, including 4,000 plates, made in the United Kingdom (UK) and delivered in June 2026, this collaboration addresses a long-standing lack of high-quality personal protection specially built for female defense and security personnel.

Dyneema® launches new fiber for protective gloves

Dyneema®, owned by Avient Corporation, (NYSE: AVNT), an innovator of materials solutions, today announces its third generation of Dyneema® Diamond fiber. Surpassing cut protection and light-weight performance of prior-generation fiber, the new material enables gloves to be made using a single yarn technology – delivering built-in cut resistance without the need for reinforcement yarns. Continuous polymerisation joins Selenis’ existing lines in Portugal, Italy, Tunisia and the United States. Customers get the same grades from more than one site, supply from within their region and the cost base of continuous production for high-volume grades. Priority markets: shrink sleeves, film and sheet, healthcare, 3D printing filaments and textile to textile recycling.
