Circularise joins expert group in leading CIRPASS-2 project to shape future legislation on digital product passports

Circularise is proud to announce its official participation in the expert group of the CIRPASS-2 project. This marks a major milestone for Circularise, as it contributes to the most significant research initiative on legislation for Digital Product Passports (DPPs) to date.

Funded by the European Commission under the Digital Europe Programme, CIRPASS-2 will run from May 2024 to April 2027, bringing together a consortium of 49 partners from diverse sectors, including industry, research, digital technology, and standardisation organisations across Europe and beyond. The project is led by CEA-List, the Digital Institute of CEA, a French research organisation dedicated to fostering innovation for industrial transformation.

The CIRPASS-2 project is poised to revolutionise the adoption of Digital Product Passports across four key value chains: textiles, electrical and electronic equipment, tyres, and construction materials. Through 13 lighthouse pilots, the project will showcase the real-world application of :s at scale, demonstrating their potential to enhance traceability, sustainability, and compliance in industries crucial to the European economy.

In addition to these pilots, the project aims to establish a wide-reaching community of : stakeholders. By uniting leaders from diverse sectors, CIRPASS-2 seeks to ensure the seamless deployment of :s across different product sectors, not only in Europe but also globally.

Circularise’s inclusion in the group underscores its position as a leader in data traceability and digital transparency. Leveraging its innovative solutions, including blockchain technology and zero-knowledge proof systems, Circularise will contribute its expertise to shape the frameworks and strategies that drive the implementation of :s.

As a participant in this ambitious initiative, Circularise will work closely with the consortium to ensure that :s are designed to meet the needs of all stakeholders, from manufacturers and regulators to recyclers and consumers.

Mesbah Sabur, co-founder of Circularise, commented: “Joining CIRPASS-2 is an exciting opportunity to help lay the groundwork for the future of product transparency. By participating in CIRPASS-2, we aim to ensure that Digital Product Passports become a standard tool for consumers, regulators and businesses in decision making based on trustworthy supply chain data.”

CIRPASS-2’s ambitious goals align closely with Circularise’s mission to enable the transition to a circular economy through traceability and transparency solutions. As the project progresses, Circularise will play an integral role in ensuring the scalability and functionality of :s, ultimately supporting industries in achieving their sustainability targets while complying with evolving European legislation.
