Milliken and Flying Cross develop high-performance fabric for new police uniform collection

The new Titan Flex uniform range combines lightweight ripstop fabric, stretch components and non-PFAS technology to improve comfort, mobility and durability in professional duty apparel

Flying Cross has introduced Titan Flex, a new collection of police uniforms developed in collaboration with US-based textile manufacturer Milliken & Company. The range combines lightweight ripstop fabric, stretch components and a redesigned fit to provide greater freedom of movement while maintaining the professional appearance required in law enforcement.

The fabric, manufactured by Milliken in Spartanburg, South Carolina, incorporates non-PFAS technology designed to provide stain and water resistance while maintaining breathability. The development reflects growing demand for functional textiles that combine durability, comfort and performance in demanding professional applications.

Performance fabrics designed for demanding applications

Titan Flex incorporates textile and garment construction features intended to improve comfort during everyday police duties, which frequently involve transitions between sitting, standing, walking and physically demanding activities.

The collection includes men's and women's fits, with uniform and hybrid shirts as well as several trouser configurations.

Stretch panels integrated into the shirts provide additional mobility when reaching and turning, while the trousers feature a flexible waistband designed to improve comfort when entering or exiting patrol vehicles.

Lightweight ripstop fabric contributes to durability, while the combination of stretch elements and breathable construction aims to provide greater freedom of movement throughout extended shifts.

“For decades, Flying Cross has set the standard in daily duty uniforms. Today, Titan Flex advances that legacy,” said Tim Freischmidt, Vice President, General Manager of Public Safety. “Officers have told us that comfort and mobility matter, but so does looking like a professional when they serve their communities. We developed Titan Flex to address both needs in a uniform they can wear confidently and comfortably during their entire shift.”

Non-PFAS technology and consistent fabric quality

Milliken manufactures the fabric in the United States using non-PFAS technology. According to the companies, the material combines water and stain resistance with breathability, addressing important requirements for uniforms used in changing environmental and operational conditions.

The development also places emphasis on colour consistency across different production runs. Milliken and Flying Cross work together to ensure that replacement uniform garments continue to match existing pieces throughout the service life of a department's uniform programme.

This is particularly relevant for institutional customers requiring consistent appearance, reliable material availability and long-term product continuity.

“Milliken has spent decades developing fabrics for outdoor, performance and military applications, where materials have to hold up to demanding conditions,” said Ashley McCullen, Senior Business Director of Protective Fabrics for Milliken. “We brought that experience to our work with Flying Cross on Titan Flex. By making the fabric in the U.S. and working closely together on its development and production, we can give departments greater confidence in the quality of their uniforms, color consistency and the stability of the program.”

Launch at international police conference

The Titan Flex collection was introduced nationally at the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) conference in October 2026.

The development demonstrates how textile technologies originally established in outdoor, performance and military applications are increasingly being adapted for professional workwear, where mobility, comfort, durability and consistent material performance are essential.
